Terms of Use

1. Who operates Second Helping

Second Helping is operated by Alexander Gunther, based in Ontario, Canada. You can reach us at alexander.gunther@gmail.com.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old and capable of agreeing to these Terms. If the law where you live requires a higher age or parental authorization for an online service, that requirement also applies. Second Helping is intended for personal and household use.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for:

• Providing accurate account information
• Keeping your login credentials secure
• Activity performed through your account
• Notifying us of suspected unauthorized access

4. Households

Second Helping lets you create and join households. Household content may be visible to other members of the same household, and household owners have additional permissions including membership and deletion controls.

Only join or invite people you intend to share the household's information with. A user who leaves a household loses access to its household-owned content.

5. Your content

You retain ownership of content you create and have the right to use. You give Second Helping a limited licence to host, store, copy, process, display and transmit that content only as reasonably necessary to provide and operate the service.

This licence ends when the content is deleted, except where limited retention is reasonably required for backups, security or legal obligations.

6. Imported recipes and third-party content

Second Helping can help import recipes from websites or other recipe managers. You are responsible for ensuring that your use, sharing or publication of third-party content is lawful.

Importing a recipe into a private household does not give you ownership of someone else's photographs, writing or other protected content. Where appropriate, the original source link is preserved. Do not use Second Helping to intentionally republish copyrighted content publicly without permission.

7. Sharing links

Share links and household invitations can be opened by anyone who has them. Share them only with people you intend to give access to, and revoke links you no longer need.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Access another person's account or household without permission
• Interfere with, overload or attempt to breach the service's security
• Scrape, resell or redistribute the service or its content without permission
• Upload unlawful, harmful or infringing content
• Use the service to violate someone else's rights

9. Grocery integrations

Grocery-provider features are optional conveniences. Second Helping is not affiliated with any grocery retailer, does not control their product catalogues, pricing, availability or delivery, and is not responsible for orders placed with them.

Always review a cart before checking out.

10. Automated suggestions

Second Helping uses automated processing to suggest meals, interpret ingredients and estimate grocery quantities. These are helpful estimates, not guarantees, and you remain responsible for what you buy and cook.

11. Nutrition, allergies and food safety

Second Helping does not provide medical, dietary or food-safety advice. Dietary tags and ingredient interpretations may be incomplete or incorrect. If you have an allergy or medical condition, always verify ingredients and packaging yourself.

12. Service availability and changes

The service may change over time, and features may be added, modified or removed. We may suspend or limit access where reasonably necessary for maintenance, security or legal reasons.

13. Price

Second Helping is currently free to use and has no advertising. If paid features are introduced in the future, their terms will be presented before you are charged.

14. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Second Helping and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access where these Terms are breached or where necessary to protect the service or its users.

15. Disclaimers

Except where prohibited by applicable law, the service is provided “as is” and without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Second Helping and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from use of the service. This limitation does not apply where applicable consumer or other law prohibits it.

17. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated as Second Helping evolves, and material changes will be communicated appropriately. Continued use after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without limiting mandatory rights you may have under the laws of your own jurisdiction.
